It is hard to believe that term 3 has come to an end. We have had another busy term with various learning activities and extra curricula activities/excursions. The yr 4/5 excursion to the Royal Adelaide Show was a success and I would like to thank Mr Ikiua, Mr Menzies, Mr Nicholls, Sarah Feltus and Simone Schupelius for providing the support and supervision. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to be able to experience and I am sure it will be one that they remember for a long time.
The Children’s University students are busy finalising their learning hours in their passports and the online portal. We had 28 students participate in the Children’s University Program this year and that is an amazing number for our school’s very first year in the program. If you would like your child to be involved in 2025, please see Jane Mount who is the CU Coordinator. I would like to thank Jane Mount for her wonderful support of our students in the program this year. She has volunteered her time and taken the lead in promoting the Children’s University by encouraging and guiding our students with the process. We are looking forward to the Graduation which is going to be held on the 26th of November.
I would like to thank Densey Finlay who has successfully completed her final University placement in the yr 1/2 class. The students have thoroughly enjoyed having Densey teaching in their class and we wish her all the best for her future teaching career. Thanks to Paul Kalfas and Alex Maloney for supporting and mentoring Densey throughout her placement. It was lovely for the students to celebrate this week with a shared lunch.
Term 4 has many events on the calendar. There will be an overview of the events distributed towards the end of next week. This will be sent home with all students as well as shared to our communication platforms.
A friendly reminder that the duty of care (yard duty) for teachers before school does not begin until 8:30am. We are seeing an increasing number of students arriving at school before 8:15am and wanted to reiterate that students are not supervised until 8:30am.
ADVANCE NOTICE – There will be a student free day on Monday the 4th of November where staff will be engaging with professional learning.
I hope you all have a relaxing and enjoyable break and we look forward to seeing you back for what proves to be another busy and exciting term.

CRAZY HAIR DAY
Our school was ready to go crazy and raise awareness about Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common inherited, life threatening condition affecting young Australians. For a child to be born with CF both parents must be genetic carriers for CF. Cystic Fibrosis is life shortening and there is no cure.
Crazy Hair Day is an annual fundraising event held in schools across Australia. For a gold coin donation we encouraged our students and teachers to wear their craziest hair designs to school. All money raised during Crazy Hair Day goes towards helping the Cystic Fibrosis Federation in Australia provide vital support to those living with cystic fibrosis.
Below are the students amazing hair creations, we were astounded by the effort families put into their children's hair. Our school raised $127.30 for this worthy cause.
Assembly Awards
Our Assembly times allow us to acknowledge our students based on the three values of our Positive Behaviour for Learning Program. These values include Respect, Resilience and Relationships.
Congratulations to the students who were awarded for their efforts during the week 9 assembly.
Below are two videos which were shown at the assembly this week. One was highlighting the yr 4/5 excursion to the Royal Adelaide Show and the other was from the fantastic Book Week disco which was hosted by the yr 4/5 class.
Classroom Chatter from 3C
One of the concepts the reception students have been focusing on in Maths is 'Measurement'. Here they can be seen pouring, predicting and proving the different amounts of liquid that measuring cups and spoons can hold. The students all enjoyed playing with the water, 'accidentally' getting wet. The next area of measurement they will be covering is length.
SAPSASA Athletics
What appeared to be a smaller field than 2023, Port Augusta West Primary School embraced the Athletics Day at Stirling North with enthusiasm, excitement and some unsettling nerves.
I wish again to praise and thank our wonderful staff. Thanks to Sarah Bury, Simone Schupelius and Kaye Nowak for assisting with jobs throughout the day including supervision, high jump and relay marshalling. The students were all well behaved, wearing their uniform with pride, whilst ensuring to be sun smart. We wish to celebrate our ongoing focus on our 'Positive Behaviour for Learning', where our students continued to shine, showed Respect towards their opponents and officials, Positive Relationships that includedstrong teamwork/listening to our staff and theResilienceto never give up.
There were some amazing individual results on the day, as well as impressive overall school results. Well done to all students who participated and I encourage you to continue to be the best version of yourself. Thanks to some wonderful parents who helped us pack up the high jump mat and our marquee.
It was terrific to be part of a wonderful day and I am proud of you all.
On Monday the 16th of September, Flynn Carn and Ayble DiPaolo represented the Northern District in the State Athletics Carnival which was held at Santos Stadium. They were selected from their successful results in various events at District level.
It was a very successful day for the Northern team, who gained medals in 24 events which is the most successful our district has been in many years. Northern finished the day in fifth position overall. Northern had 28 representatives and achieved 6 gold, 7 silver and 9 bronze medals.
Ayble achieved a gold medal in his shot-put event and a silver medal in the discus. Flynn competed in the long jump and won a bronze medal in the relay. A wonderful effort by the boys and the northern team.
State Soccer Carnival
On Monday I drove down to Adelaide (Gepps Cross) to play three full days of soccer for our Northern District team. We played 3 games each day, I played in defence. We won a couple of games and lost some. Thanks to Robbo for coaching the team. It was a great experience.

Health & PE
It has been a year since I have used the Positive Behaviour Learning to motivate and engage our students. The focus is on teaching our students resilience, relationships, and respect in HPE supports student development. I have had over 300 positive things occur in the HPE learning space. Students develop the social skills, personal responsibility, and the opportunities to be lifelong learners as well as positive role models. It has been a pleasure to be part of your child's achievements, growth and I have always encouraged them to never lose sight of their dreams. I am proud of all our students.

Music
On Monday, 9th September, some of the percussion students Jackson, Hayden, Marleigh and Luca H had the task of setting up the schools new drum kit. They worked together in pairs to read, interpret and follow the instructions and asked for help from Mr. Altmann when needed. They all worked well together and were able to successfully put all of the skins on the drums and set up the hi-hat and the crash cymbal. Now they are looking forward to trying the new kit out.
